What is The Blue Envelope Program
The Arc of Bartholomew County is excited to partner with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office to bring the Blue Envelope Program to our community, launching May 1, 2026.
This initiative is designed to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder and those with intellectual or developmental disabilities during interactions with law enforcement and first responders. The program helps create safer, more understanding encounters by reducing stress and improving communication.
How The Program Works
Participants receive a blue envelope to store essential documents like a driver’s license, registration, and insurance. The envelope also includes helpful guidance and serves as a visual cue to alert first responders that the individual may have communication differences or sensory sensitivities.
Additional features include:
• Clear instructions for both the individual and responding officer
• Space for emergency contact and communication details
Where to Pick Up Envelopes
Blue envelopes will be available now and can be picked up through The Arc of Bartholomew County or the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.
For additional information, please contact either organization.
