Our Office David Walby Is Moving onto a New Adventure

It is with a heavy heart that I say that, after almost 2 1/2 amazing years, I am stepping away from my position at The Arc of Bartholomew County.

I started as a Summer Intern in July 2023 and worked under the previous Executive Director, Grace Kestler. Thoroughly satisfied with my performance, and due to changes in staffing, a more permanent offer was extended to me.

I accepted and was given the role of Office Manager, which I have served in since.

The Arc of Bartholomew County has been an absolute boon to my professional development. I have had the privilege to work directly under 2 amazing Executive Directors, form critical community connections, and grow as both a professional and a human. Serving in the non-profit sector and doing work that directly supports people in need showed me a part of myself that I did not previously know was there. This eventually helped lead to me getting more involved in the community, joining Kiwanis, and expanding my horizons far beyond where they would've been at another position.

At the Arc, I've been able to do and learn so many new things, like:

  • Try grant writing and help raise over $20,000 for the organization.

  • Engage in public speaking opportunities at Arc events and meet community leaders.

  • Train people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in important digital literacy skills to keep themselves safe in online environments.

  • Gain advanced technical skills with website building software, Canva graphic design tools, newsletter & donor management software.

  • Many, many, many other things that I would love to mention, but do not have the space to do here.

I am truly grateful for my time at The Arc of Bartholomew County, and I firmly believe that this organization has served as an amazing launchpad for my adult life. This has not just been a job; it has been a training ground where I not only learned and grew professionally, but as a human being, as well. The folks I have met while at The Arc are truly incredible, and I am proud to call them friends in addition to their other titles.

I now step away to become the Office Manager for Sandy Hook UMC, where I have also been serving as their Systems & Communications Director since July. However, I would never have been able to do this job if it were not for the skills I have learned at The Arc.

This is not a goodbye; it is a see-ya later, as I will most certainly continue to be engaged with The Arc and its mission in the future, albeit in a volunteer capacity.

Thank you to The Arc of Bartholomew County, its amazing people, and the critical position in the community that it serves.
