What is The Arc of Bartholomew County?
With more than 400 members The Arc is the largest membership organization that advocates for persons with intellectual and cognitive disabilities and their families in our community.
Is it a new group?
No. The Arc of Bartholomew County was organized by parents in 1955 & 1956. It was part of a state and national movement in which parents from around the country first met in 1950 to advocate and develop educational programs for their young children with special needs.
What is The Arc's Library & Resource Center and Toy Chest Program?
The Arc, in collaboration with Childhood Connections and other groups, has a large collection of books, videos and publications on disabilities that are available for loan.
Toys and books designed to promote motor and cognitive skill acquisition in young children years are available for loan at no cost.Does The Arc provide Parent Support?
Yes. In the community support groups are available for parents, relatives and friends of persons with Down syndrome, autism, and school-age youth and other special needs.
What information is available?
Members of The Arc receive local, state and national newsletters including the locally published "Arc Insight - News of Bartholomew County". "The Arc Info Line", an electronic newsletter on public policy is available to all who have email. Additional materials on specific topics are also available.
What is the Ben Baker Scholarship?
Honoring an educator and Arc member awarded to a student who demonstrates a commitment to persons with intellectual or cognitive disabilities or developmental delays and/or who is pursuing an education related to serving those with special needs.
